When I was younger I used to call myself an abstract artist. I did this not because I had any understanding of what that actually meant, I called myself that because it moved me forward. I can’t say that any of my pieces from that era were any good; I just never let it discourage me. As Walt Disney said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
Art•ist noun \ˈär-tist\:
a person who creates art : a person who is skilled at drawing, painting, etc. (Merriam-Webster)
I think the word artist is a silly word. It’s a title you create for yourself expecting a sometimes unrealistic standard. Therefore I don’t call myself an artist. I suppose creator is better, but not quite right. I think I am a person who makes art. Flat out, no title is necessary.
